Lighthouse Homeschool Co-Op
... let us walk in the light of the LORD. Isaiah 2:5
Parental Involvement
Mandatory- Each semester a parent or legal guardian must attend what we call our “Mandatory Meeting.” The purpose of the meeting is to:
- Become informed about Lighthouse guidelines and policies and the parental involvement requirement.
- Sign up for monitoring.
- Find out about activities for the year.
- Answer any questions you may have about the year.
Attendance at this meeting is required before any student will be allowed to enter class. Be sure to check the website for the date and time of the next meeting.
- Each year a parent or legal guardian must sign the Liability and Medical Release forms in order for their child(ren) to be eligible to participate in any Lighthouse sponsored classes. These forms can be found under the “policies” section of the website.
Clean-Up/Monitor Guidelines
- A parent or legal guardian from each family must participate in hall monitoring during the school semester. Sign up will be at the time of registration. Children of families not signed up for monitoring will not be able to enter class until the parent has signed up.
- Help us teach our kids to be cooperative and to leave the classrooms in better condition than we found them. Please be certain that you have your children clean up their own lunch food/debris.
- If your child is participating in a class whose instructor has young children, each parent for that class will be required to sign-up to watch that instructor’s child(ren). Please see class descriptions for more details.
Morning Monitors
- General: The morning monitor's basic duties are to supervise the areas of the building where there are no classes going on in the morning and to supervise and ensure lunchroom cleanup during the lunch hour. The morning monitor is expected to arrive by 9 am and stay until the end of lunch and the lunchroom is clean.
- Rotate through the halls and bathrooms and study rooms to make sure rules are being followed.
- Ensure that study rooms are quiet. If students are being loud, speak to them and ask them to quiet down. If the noise continues, send students to sit with parents. Have students straighten up the study rooms before they leave.
- Ensure only parents and small children are in nursery. Parents should straighten up the nursery before they leave.
- Ensure that children playing outside are supervised by a parent or other adult. One parent may watch several children.
- Ensure no one is playing in the sanctuary.
Lunchtime Monitor
- Supervise the lunchroom. All eating should be done in the lunchroom. Children should be talking in a normal voice. Ask them to pick up their own trash and designate one person to wipe down the table when the group leaves.
- At the end of lunch make sure all tables are clean and that if any need to be put away, ask students to help put them away.
- Sweep the lunchroom floor.
- Make sure the lunchroom is clean by 12:40 p.m. and ready for classes to start.
Afternoon Monitor
- The afternoon monitor should arrive by noon to supervise recess. After recess is over at 12:40 p.m., the afternoon monitor will supervise the building while classes are in session and then clean up after classes are over. The afternoon monitor duties are over when the building is clean and ready for general church use.
- Supervise the outdoor recess time. At 12:40 p.m., call all children in to class.

- Teachers (with student help) should clean up after their own classes including any sweeping/wiping tables/empty trash to downstairs/arrange chairs in orderly manner. Check each classroom to make sure it is ready for church use- boards are wiped clean, trash is emptied, no trash on floor and tables are clean. Chairs are arranged in an orderly manner in room.
